Our Commitment to Quality

When you choose Southbank to achieve your apprenticeship or traineeship, you are entitled to ask about the quality of our programs.

Southbank Institute of Technology is committed to values and systems which ensure our programs are of the highest quality.  This commitment covers what we teach you and how we teach you.  We are also guided by the standards which appear in the Australian Quality Training Framework.

To make sure we are providing the best solutions, we review our programs every Semester.  We also seek external advice to ensure we are providing the best possible service.

It was through these reviews that we found an opportunity last year to improve the delivery of our Hairdressing apprenticeship.

In this instance we learnt on 26 October 2009 that Unit WRH30106 relating to the Certificate III in Hairdressing did not comply to a significant degree with our standards.

A brief summary of the non-compliance is:

Assessment tools for WRHHS301A did not address all the required knowledge & skills and critical aspects of the unit.  Sufficient benchmarks answers were not provided.  The supervisor’s practical checklist required more clarity about its use and function in the assessment process for the unit.

The following is a brief summary of actions taken:

The Hairdressing Team reviewed and amended the assessment tools to include benchmarks and detailed instructions to assessors and students. The clarity and function of the supervisors checklist was reworked to form part of the assessment process.

Our response ensured the non-compliance was rectified by 7 April 2010.

Our Certificate III in Printing & Graphic Arts (Printing) was found in October 2009 to fully comply with all quality requirements.  Our Certificate III in Off-Site Construction (Sign Writing) and Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) were also audited in October 2009.  In both instances minor non-compliances were noted but were deemed to be minor and did not require rectification.

Due to this vigilance and scrutiny of our training, you may be confident of our commitment to meeting the highest standards.
