Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)
Southbank Institute’s AMEP program provides free English language training for newly arrived migrants and refugees. The AMEP focuses on teaching functional English language skills to help eligible students, successfully settle in Australia. Southbank provides a safe learning environment where students learn the communication skills they need to succeed in Australian society, in further study, community activities and at work.
The AMEP is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship; for more information please visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.
Eligibility for AMEP
You may be eligible for the AMEP if you’re an adult migrant (18 years old or over) for whom English is not your first language, and who has been assessed as not having functional English language skills. Eligible students can study English with the AMEP but need to have enrolled in these classes within three months of coming to Australia and commence study within one year of arrival.
AMEP Courses
Courses offered under the AMEP are suitable for migrants and refugees with different spoken and written English needs, skill levels and interests. These courses provide you with clear pathways for work and further study or training and includes computer studies.
