This program aims to provide participants with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to carry out functional activities in food and beverage, housekeeping, front office and commercial kitchens at an operative level. This program will facilitate progression, with appropriate subsequent experience, to supervisory level in hospitality organisations such as hotels, restaurants, bistros, convention centres, resorts and catering organisations.
Entry Requirements
English Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0) or TOEFL 530 or ISLPR 2+
and
School Leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent with a Sound Achievement in English and Mathematics
or
Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies
or
Successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate III or higher in any area of study requiring formal written communication and numeracy skills
or
Relevant experience in the Hospitality Industry
and

Program Duration
Full Time 57 weeks

Classes are generally timetabled between 8.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday with some restaurant classes finishing at 10.00pm to reflect the working conditions common to the hospitality industry.
Students are required to gain work experience of 400 hours in the hospitality industry while undertaking the program. Towards this end, students will be encouraged and supported to gain this valuable and essential experience, either in paid employment or through suitable work experience.

Cost
$15,000.00
Additional costs for this program include uniform, equipment and textbook expenses. A complete uniform (approximately $165) and a full set of tools and equipment (approximately $260) is required by each individual.

| Program structure consists of Common Core, Functional, General Elective courses and Work Experience. Common Core courses are programmed in Semesters 1, 2 & 3. International Student Information
Southbank Institute of Technology is situated in the city of Brisbane and is Queensland’s largest Government Vocational Education provider, with over 30,000 student enrolments per year. Southbank Institute of Technology is an ideal place to study. The Institute’s three campuses are located at Southbank, Kangaroo Point and Morningside, close to Brisbane’s Central Business District (CBD) and vibrant inner city areas.
Students at Southbank Institute of Technology have access to the Institute’s wide range of facilities and services. These include the Auditorium, Beauty and Natural Therapies Clinic, Bookshop, Cafe, Child-Care Centre, Computer Laboratories, Conference and Function Facilities, Gymnasium, Intercampus Bus and a Restaurant staffed by students from the Institute.
Teaching methods combine face-to-face delivery, self-study and project work. Students may be required to complete work experience and/or field trips to be eligible for the program award. Southbank Institute of Technology assists students in finding appropriate organisations in which to complete this component. The majority of classes are conducted in modern, air conditioned venues. Students have access to computers in our extensive library and e-Learn centres located on each campus.
Students will be required to sit for both open and closed book examinations and in some cases may be required to perform skills tests and/or oral presentations. Individual or group project work may also be used to determine competency.
The International Business Team consists of administrative and support staff, dedicated to assisting students throughout the various stages of study. This assistance ranges from Program Information to Admission Procedures, Entry Requirements, Visa Regulations and requirements for extending studies to Diploma or Degree level. The International Student Support Officer provides assistance with accommodation, Overseas Student Health Cover, public transport information and can refer students to other support services within and outside the Institute.
