This program focuses on the strand of animation. Take your place in the new communication millennium by gaining skills in internet and interactive multimedia technologies. The award winning Queensland training institute, Southbank Institute of Technology, delivers the industry focused Diploma of Screen. This program will provide you with video, special effects, multimedia and animation development skills to help you build a successful career in this exciting industry.

Students in the program will use the PC-based classrooms at Southbank Campus. These classrooms are all equipped with high-end Pentium computers running under Windows XP. They operate software used for training people in multimedia and web development such as Flash, Photoshop and 3D Max. The program offers tuition in:

· 2D Animation
· 3D Animation
· 3D Modelling
· Stop motion animation
· Special Effects
· Desktop Video Capture & Production
· Sound Capture & Editing
· Character Design
· Industry Issues such as Copyright
· Short Film
· Video Compositing

Whilst studying, students are encouraged to:

· Develop a digital portfolio and demo reel
· Participate in industry exhibitions
· Attend industry seminars
· Join Queensland Animators as a student member



Entry Requirements

English Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0) or TOEFL 530 or ISLPR 2+   
and
School leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent  
or
Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies

Competence in Windows applications (eg word processing packages) and creative talent are also desirable.

Career Opportunities

This qualification is designed to reflect the role of people working in the animation and visual effects industry who perform technical, design or managerial roles. At this level it is possible to specialise in character design, project management, video production, or design. Common duties may include

International Student Information

Southbank Institute of Technology is situated in the city of Brisbane and is Queensland’s largest Government Vocational Education provider, with over 30,000 student enrolments per year. Southbank Institute of Technology is an ideal place to study. The Institute’s three campuses are located at Southbank, Kangaroo Point and Morningside, close to Brisbane’s Central Business District (CBD) and vibrant inner city areas.
Students at Southbank Institute of Technology have access to the Institute’s wide range of facilities and services. These include the Auditorium, Beauty and Natural Therapies Clinic, Bookshop, Cafe, Child-Care Centre, Computer Laboratories, Conference and Function Facilities, Gymnasium, Intercampus Bus and a Restaurant staffed by students from the Institute.

Teaching methods combine face-to-face delivery, self-study and project work. Students may be required to complete work experience and/or field trips to be eligible for the program award. Southbank Institute of Technology assists students in finding appropriate organisations in which to complete this component. The majority of classes are conducted in modern, air conditioned venues. Students have access to computers in our extensive library and e-Learn centres located on each campus.

Students will be required to sit for both open and closed book examinations and in some cases may be required to perform skills tests and/or oral presentations. Individual or group project work may also be used to determine competency.

The International Business Team consists of administrative and support staff, dedicated to assisting students throughout the various stages of study. This assistance ranges from Program Information to Admission Procedures, Entry Requirements, Visa Regulations and requirements for extending studies to Diploma or Degree level. The International Student Support Officer provides assistance with accommodation, Overseas Student Health Cover, public transport information and can refer students to other support services within and outside the Institute.
