Do you want to teach English in your own country or overseas? Do you want to improve your English at the same time? Do you want to progress to senior positions within the TESOL industry? Do you want a qualification higher than your Bachelor’s Degree? Our Vocational Graduate Diploma of TESOL and English Language Development program provides you with highly specialised skills and knowledge in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages to help you to advance within the TESOL industry overseas. It also gives you the practical skills to effectively develop TESOL curricula or other workplace projects, use advanced language analysis skills in preparing English language students for language assessment and conduct action research into your own TESOL practice.



Entry Requirements


You may enrol in 39230QLD Vocational Graduate Diploma of TESOL and English Language Development if you have the following:
• a Bachelor Degree (any discipline), three-year diploma or other equivalent higher education qualification;
or
• not less than three years full-time vocational TESOL experience (or equivalent) without a recognised higher education qualification;
and
• IELTS 5.5 with no score under 5 / ISLPR four skills at 2+ (or equivalent) as a minimum.


Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the program you will be able to teach English language courses across a range of sectors overseas including:
• private conversation schools for adults
• high schools and primary schools (provided you have the necessary country-specific teaching qualifications or registration)
• private lessons and small group lessons
• teaching and working in senior positions within overseas TESOL institutions.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

International Student Information

Southbank Institute of Technology is situated in the city of Brisbane and is Queensland’s largest Government Vocational Education provider, with over 30,000 student enrolments per year. Southbank Institute of Technology is an ideal place to study. The Institute’s three campuses are located at Southbank, Kangaroo Point and Morningside, close to Brisbane’s Central Business District (CBD) and vibrant inner city areas.
Students at Southbank Institute of Technology have access to the Institute’s wide range of facilities and services. These include the Auditorium, Beauty and Natural Therapies Clinic, Bookshop, Cafe, Child-Care Centre, Computer Laboratories, Conference and Function Facilities, Gymnasium, Intercampus Bus and a Restaurant staffed by students from the Institute.

Teaching methods combine face-to-face delivery, self-study and project work. Students may be required to complete work experience and/or field trips to be eligible for the program award. Southbank Institute of Technology assists students in finding appropriate organisations in which to complete this component. The majority of classes are conducted in modern, air conditioned venues. Students have access to computers in our extensive library and e-Learn centres located on each campus.

Students will be required to sit for both open and closed book examinations and in some cases may be required to perform skills tests and/or oral presentations. Individual or group project work may also be used to determine competency.

The International Business Team consists of administrative and support staff, dedicated to assisting students throughout the various stages of study. This assistance ranges from Program Information to Admission Procedures, Entry Requirements, Visa Regulations and requirements for extending studies to Diploma or Degree level. The International Student Support Officer provides assistance with accommodation, Overseas Student Health Cover, public transport information and can refer students to other support services within and outside the Institute.
